Article Analysis
For this assignment, you are going to analyse the article “Here Comes the Sun,” by Paul Krugman, which can be found at: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/07/opinion/krugman-here-comes-solar-energy.html?_r=0
.Please include the following sections in your analysis:
1. Introduction:This will introduce the background to the issue at hand, the author of the article, and the main thesis of the article.
2. Summary:This section will contain a brief summary of the main points of the article.
3. Assessment:This section will objectively analyse and assess the author’s claims, and whether these claims are satisfied by the evidence the author provides. This should be the longest and most substantial portion of your analysis. Be on the lookout for unwarranted overgeneralisations, false causation, faulty either/or arguments, red herrings, and other logical and evidentiary errors. You are also welcome to and encouraged to use outside research test the claims the author is making in the “Here Comes the Sun” article.
4. Response:This section will present your informed opinion concerning the validity of the claims made in the article. Here you will make clear which of the author’s views you agree with, and which you disagree with.
Remember that this is a newspaper article, and that there is a limit to how much evidence the author could reasonably include. Also keep in mind that the article does not (and should not) have the scholarly apparatus one would expect in an academic article, although the author should make the sources of his information clear. Your analysis should be at a minimum 1250 words, and 1750 words at a maximum.
You do not need to have in-text citations for the “Here Comes the Sun” article; you should, however, have a Reference Page entry for it. If you include other articles/research into your analysis, these must be properly cited with in-text citations and a Reference Page.
