Assignment: Write an analytical essay on the Catholic doctrine
of the Trinity (see below).
Your essay should examine its topic from a theological
perspective through the application of research and our class
discussion on the Trinity. You should articulate and explain the
Eternal Processions of the Trinity. In order to do this you’ll need
to analyze the doctrine of the Trinity (what it is, what it isn’t)
as it is held in Catholic theology. “Analysis” is not your opinion
concerning the validity of the doctrine, but a careful examination
of what the Church believes and why it believes it. Your paper
should cover the key points of Trinitarian theology including, but
not limited to:
The point of unity in the Trinity (how God is one)
The point of plurality (how God is three)
The Eternal Processions and the relations within the Trinity
The application/understanding of the key terms of Trinitarian
theology.
A good paper will incorporate this analysis into a clear,
systematic and cohesive whole.
You may need to seek out additional information from
appropriate academic sources. In general internet sources are not
considered academic and should not be used without prior approval.
